Scott Portelli, from Australia, recorded the amazing scene in Byron Bay and says they carried on eating the gelatinous beast for two days.

He said: ‘I was fascinated by the behaviour and excited to capture this footage – it went on for hours; we saw this over two different dives on the same day.

‘I’ve never seen anything like this before, but since I took this footage and the award winning photo, I have seen more and more people releasing images from the area.

‘The turtles in the video are green turtles and they do usually feed on jellyfish – it’s part of their diet.

‘They are not sharing it, they are actually eating it and would sometimes try and take it away from the other turtles.

Sometimes they snap at each other to chase the others away.’
