Sea World returns two green sea turtles to Brevard
Members of the Sea World Orlando Animal Rescue Team returned two endangered sea turtles that had been rehabilitated back to Brevard County beaches on Wednesday morning, they say.
One of the turtles was found on Feb. 21 at Sebastian Inlet State Park. It weighed at 8.5 pounds and suffered from severe malnutrition and lethargy. It now weighs 13.2 pounds.
A second turtle was found on a Brevard beach on May 26, weighing a slightly underweight 4.3 pounds. It had also suffered from a bacterial infection but it now weighs in at 5.8 pounds.
Both turtles were able to gain back the weight thanks to a balanced diet along with increased vitamin intake and daily care by the Sea World staff, they say.
The turtles were the 69th and 70th returned to the sea this year by Sea World. They also say they have rescued 49 sea turtles, more than double the average for this time of year.
