Four Olive Ridley turtles were found washed ashore in a single day on Wednesday. A turtle weighing 70 kg was found dead near the Gandhi statue. Locals found the dead turtle and informed the Forest Department. The three other turtles were washed ashore at Chunnambar on East Coast Road. A team from the Forest Department conducted post-mortem and buried the turtles.

A senior official said that the Olive Ridley was listed under schedule-1 of the Indian Wildlife (Protection) Act. The turtle found near the Gandhi statue might have been washed ashore after getting caught in trawlers or due to rough sea.
