Need a new pet ? Several desert tortoises are looking for a forever home
When you think of a new pet, the traditional animals come to mind.
Dogs. Cats. Birds. Rabbits.
But how about a desert tortoise?
If you’re looking to add another member to your family, the Arizona Game and Fish Department has dozens of desert tortoises available for adoption.

According to Defenders of Wildlife, recent studies suggest there are between 5 and 60 adult desert tortoises per square mile across their habitat in the Mohave and Sonoran deserts while they used to average at least 200 adults per square mile.
The organization said the tortoises eat « a variety of vegetation, including annual wildflowers, grasses, and new growth of selected shrubs, cacti and their flowers. »
