These tortoises are headed to court
Four men are due to appear in the Princes Town Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with the possession of a yellow footed tortoise and two orange headed gallop tortoises.
The four are employed with the National Wildlife Survey, a group set up with the University of the West Indies (UWI) and Environmental Management (EMA) to survey the animal population to collect data during the two year moratorium on hunting, which ends in August.
The group was stopped at 12.20a.m. last Friday at Rochard Douglas Road, Barrackpore. The four, aged 22, 29, 30, and 34, are all from Barrackpore.
They were charged by game warden Seepersad Samaroo. One suspect was also charged with the possession of marijuana.
