Tortoises found dumped in Bestwood Country Park
Three tortoises have been found dumped in a Nottinghamshire park.
The RSPCA is appealing for information after a member of the public found the animals on Tuesday, September 2, in a brown cardboard box in Bestwood Country Park.
The tortoises are all in good health and are now in specialist care.
Inspector McAdam said: “We deal with so many different types of animal abandonments, but with all my years in the RSPCA I have never been called to deal with the abandonment of a tortoise – let alone three!
“I just don’t think it is a case that they have accidentally been dumped, but I am just very surprised that someone has left them in a box abandoned – I am not sure what the reason behind this would be.
“I would appeal to anyone who is aware of someone who had three tortoises and who now no longer has them to contact us.
“Past experience has taught us that due to the fact these are quite rare, we do sometimes get hoax calls from people claiming to own them, therefore we would ask if anyone comes forward to claim the tortoises then they would need to demonstrate proof of ownership.”
